Fisherman's Appetizer on Homemade Calabrian Bread

L'Fisherman's Appetizer is a mix of seafood and fish preserved in olive oil, typical of Calabrian seafood tradition. Served on slices of homemade bread from Calabria baked in a wood-fired oven, it becomes a quick, flavorful and deeply authentic dinner. Also perfect as an appetizer for a dinner party.

Ingredients

  • 200 g of Antipasto del Pescatore in olive oil
  • 4-6 slices of homemade Calabrian bread
  • 2 tablespoons of Calabrian extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • Fresh parsley to taste.
  • Calabrian chili pepper q.b.
  • Juice of half a lemon

Proceedings

  1. Toast slices of homemade bread in the oven or on a grill until golden brown.
  2. Rub each slice with the garlic clove cut in half.
  3. Drain the Fisherman's Antipasto from excess oil.
  4. Spread the fish mixture on the bread slices.
  5. Season with a drizzle of EVO oil, chopped parsley, chili pepper and a few drops of lemon.
  6. Serve immediately.

Tips

You can enrich the dish with a few desalted capers or Calabrian black olives for even more flavor. Homemade Calabrian wood-fired bread is essential: its crispy crust and firm crumbs hold up the seasoning perfectly.
