Pane di Jurmanu Tostato con Crema di Pistacchio di Sicilia

Toasted Jurmanu Bread with Sicilian Pistachio Cream

Il Jurmanu bread is a traditional Calabrian bread made from Jurmanu rye, an ancient grain grown in the Aspromontane mountains. Its rustic, slightly acidic flavor marries wonderfully with the enveloping sweetness of the Sicilian Pistachio Cream, for a wholesome, nutritious and great breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of Jurmanu Bread
  • 4 generous tablespoons of Sicilian Pistachio Cream
  • Whole shelled pistachios to taste for decoration
  • A drizzle of Italian honey (optional)

Proceedings

  1. Toast the slices of Jurmanu Bread in a toaster oven or in a 180°C oven for 5 minutes.
  2. Spread pistachio cream generously on each slice while still warm.
  3. Decorate with a few whole shelled pistachios.
  4. Add a drizzle of Italian honey for an extra touch of sweetness (optional).
  5. Serve immediately with coffee or cappuccino.

Tips

Jurmanu Bread keeps well for several days thanks to the rye flour. Always toast it before consuming to bring out its crunchiness and fragrance. Pistachio cream is also great as a filling for tarts and cakes.
